Impressionism/Post-Impressionism: (l)Overture
Impressionism was a 19th-century art movement that began as a loose association of Paris-based artists whose independent exhibitions brought them to prominence in the 1870s and 1880s. Post-Impressionists extended Impressionism while rejecting its limitations: they continued using vivid colours, thick application of paint, distinctive brushstrokes and real-life subject matter, but they were more inclined to emphasize geometric forms, to distort form for expressive effect, and to use unnatural or arbitrary colour. This video is part of the “Palette” project and pays homage to Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. This is a biography of the famous Impressionist painter, Claude Monet, which I made using FinalCut Pro.

Music by Rafael Brom from Angelophany
Monet was the founder of impressionism, as it was a painting he did in 1872, titled “Impression, Sunrise”, which had a baffled art critic pick out the word “impression” to describe, at the time, the relatively new art trend. The soundtrack in this piece is the first 3 minutes and 45 seconds of Chopin’s “Piano Concerto No. 1 In E minor, Op.11: Romance – Larghetto”.
