It has been proven that there are a lot of benefits to getting pedicures. Besieds helping your feet feel better, when massage is included, pedicures have been known to lower your stress and pain and improve blood flow. Of course, many of us aren’t super excited about the idea of getting a pedicure from a professional. Getting a professional pedicure means having your feet subjected to things that have been used on a gross amount of other people and you never know if the salon is up on its hygienic standards. The good news is that it is perfectly possible to perform a pedicure on yourself. If you would like to learn how to perform your own pedicures, keep reading.

Remove any nail polish using a non-acetone polish remover (acetone is terrible for your health). The next thing you should do is clip your nails straight across and smooth down any rough edges. See to it that you use a toenail clipper for this and not a fingernail clipper. The fingernail clipper’s curled shape can cause toenails to become ingrown and begin hurting.

Try to use a foot bath to get your feet soaked. Try to let your feet stay in the water for several minutes. It is also good to put in things like bath salts, skin softeners or skin soothers to the water. This can transform the foot bath into a seriously wonderful experience and help your feet feel really good. Foot soaking crystals are available in just about any bath and body section of any department store today. Some of the products are costlier than others but pick the one you like the best.

Smoothen any calluses or rough spots that may remain after your foot bath using a pumice. Don’t use a callus shaver or something similar. A plain old pumice is all you would ever need to have.

Rinse your feet when you’re finished with the pumice stone. Once you have washed off the dust from the pumice stone and your calluses as well as any foot soak-ness that remains, put on some moisturizing lotion. There are lots of moisturizing lotions available particularly for the feet. It is okay to just rub in the lotion rapidly if you are pressed for time, but try not to settle for this. Rather, if possible, really massage in the lotion. Massaging helps calm down not only your feet but the rest of your body too.

Now that your feet are all clean, free of calluses and have been properly moisturized, if you have time, the next step is to make them pretty. Even though this isn’t exactly an essential step, knowing that your toes are pretty (even if you’re the only one who can see them because your feet are stuffed into closed toe shoes all day) can do quite a lot for your self-esteem. Cuticle pushers are the best option for pushing back your cuticles (trimmers can cause a multitude of cuts and infections). Apply a layer of nail strengthening polish. As soon as that dries, you can try to paint your toes in whatever colors or designs you like.

At home pedicures do not have to take a great deal of time and are oftentimes more affordable than what you would pay for professional services. They’re terrific for your entire body so start right now! what are you waiting for?
