Slot Machines: The American Past Time

September 9th, 2010 by Becka

Slot machines are one of the most popular forms of gambling devices seen at casinos today . Most casinos have entire rooms devoted to these slot machines , such as the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut or the Casino New Brunswick in Moncton New Brunswick. Some of these casinos have over 7,000 slot machines and plan on expanding to get even more .

Not only are slot machines very popular in casinos, they are beginning to become very popular online at gambling websites and online casinos .These popular machines have a very long history and it is this notorious history which we will explore

The slot machine’s story begins at the turn of the 20th Century, when a German immigrant named August Fey built a metal box with three spinning reels in the San Francisco region. The three reels contained various symbols, including bells, and when three bells lined up in the box’s window, the top prize was awarded!

This invention caught on rather quick  , and in less than a decade, Herbert Mills of  Chicago expanded upon the “Bell Machines,” adding symbols and widening the window so players who missed hitting could see just how close they came to a winning spin.  Mills began to mass produce these machines  and sold them all over the country. Initially these machines paid in prizes other than cash to avoid gambling legislation, but in 1931 when gambling was legalized in Nevada, cash-payout slots quickly began to appear in local casinos. Thus entering in the days of the Slot Machine! In the 1960′s, the Bally’s company replaced the traditional mechanical make-up of the slot machine with an electromechanical system. This allowed for machines that could both collect and pay out faster and quickly made Bally’s the world leader in slot machine sales

Today, slot machines often have a tremendous amount of bells and whistle s, even more so than before. While some still have the trade marked “arm” that can be cranked to set the wheels in motion, they can all be operated simply by pressing a button on the display or on the control panel. They allow for multiple coins that can result in payouts on as many as nine lines, and offer huge progressive built jackpots.

Furthermore, the slot revolution has moved to the online world . When online casinos began cropping up at the turn of the 21st Century,  slot machines were a necessity  . They operate in almost exactly the same way as their physical counterparts, with no need to lug heavy buckets of coins to a cashier window. As casino gambling has evolved, slot machines have evolved as well and their popularity as a gaming option shows no signs of slowing down.

If you are looking for some of the sickest slot machines known to man  then take a trip to beautiful Moncton New Brunswick in Canada. Here you will find the grande Casino New Brunswick , or as the local french population refers to it as Casino Nouveau Brunswick . The slots machines here are amongst the best in the world and the payouts are fantastic.
