Some Marketing Ideas For Your Catering Business

Don’t forget that when building a marketing plan, your marketing strategy should correspond to the different groups that you are targeting. You will find in the next paragraphs some common marketing procedures and thoughts which will give you some ideas on how to proceed best with your plan.

Print Media and Websites

Having your name visible in popular event magazines and websites makes you more accessible to event planners and other professionals who may need or refer your services for their client. Being short listed is one byproduct of having your ads in event planner magazines and websites; even though it doesn’t guarantee instant success, at least you’ll have a better chance of sending in your bid. Event publications and websites usually concentrate their interest on the city, so if your operations are focused outside the city, advertising on these sites won’t give you as much advantage.

Press Coverage

Being present in prestigious affairs could also be an edge you can exploit, these affairs could be mentioned in the media and it’s one way for you to advertise your business. To start with, you could find some non-government organization that holds an event big enough to garner press coverage, and then offer to cater for the event for a discounted rate. Once you’ve secured the offer, this would be a good opportunity for you to present yourself as one of the sponsors of the event. To consistently keep getting press coverage, contracts with your client should include the right to send press releases about the occasion; this should not be difficult as most clients do prefer to get some press coverage. For private affairs though, this clause may be counterproductive for your client so you might be asked to delete that part of the contract.

Create a Systematic Referral System

To get more successful referrals, it would be better for your business if you create a formal referral system rather than relying on your customers to spread your expertise to their friends and acquaintances. One way you could do this would be to give referral packages to clients who can bring in more customers; you could also instruct your people to ask your clients for direct referrals. The client should be aware that you are thankful for the referral they had brought to your business; if not for them then the new customer might not have sought your services at all. It is important that your client realize how much you appreciate their effort, so instead of just calling or emailing them, send them a handwritten note expressing your gratitude – or a gift would be even better.
