Poker players must be well familiar of the poker hand rankings to become successful players of poker. Of course, to become players they wish to become, they need to know what hands to always play and what hands to always avoid.

The Hand Rankings

Royal flush, the first in the rankings, is considered as the most powerful hand. Poker players would love to have it. It is an ace high straight with all cards of same suit.

Straight flush is a hand also worth having. It is a hand of suited cards in sequential order.

Four of a kind is also a hand to have. It is a hand of four cards of the same rank.

Full house is a hand which can be a playable hand. It is a set of a pair and three of a kind.

Flush is a hand that poker players can play. It is a hand that is consists of suited cards in any sequence.

Straight is a hand that can simply make poker players win. It is a hand made up of five cards of sequential rank.

Three of a kind is a hand worth playing under certain circumstances. It is a hand that is made up of three cards of same value.

Two pair is a hand that is less desired but can also make poker players win in a poker game. It is a hand of two cards of same rank and two cards of another rank.

A pair is also a less desired hand howevercan also be worth playing. It is a hand of two cards of the same rank.

High card is a distinct and playable hand. It is a hand without two cards of same rank, five cards in sequence, and the five cards of same suit.
