She graduated from Boston College magna cum laude and from George Washington University Medical School in 1983. She completed Internal Medicine residency and Hematology Research Award training at the University of Vermont at Burlington, Hematology Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic and Oncology Fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago. She then entered the faculty of Northwestern University School of Medicine, remaining there until 2003, when she returned to New England with her family, hoping to buy a farm. She served on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts for 3 years before moving to Maine with her husband and their daughter, to fullfill a lifelong dream of owning a farm . They purchased the Pfister farm (originally the Doe Homestead) in Vassalboro in 2006. Dr. Traynor does not believe that living in Maine should mean lack of access to the most important clincial trials. On the contrary, it just requires a devotion to and experience in clincial trials and their publication. As a child, Dr. Traynor lost her father to Hodgkin’s Disease, and lost a young aunt to breast cancer. Her sister is now, happily, a ten year survivor of breast cancer and four of her brothers are survivors of prostate cancer. Dr. Traynor is the author of over sixty peer reviewed publications in The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Blood, Journal of the American Medical Association and other journals. Like many Mainers, she is a photographer, horseperson and gardener, who loves living in Maine. Please know that Dr. Traynor is a member of the American Society of Breast |
