I always hear how jazz is the only original American art form. Is rock not considered because it has origins from other countries?
You may feel free to correct those people, and I’m a jazz fan. Blues is older and also 100% American. Rock and roll was really not substantially different from jump blues, a jazz genre, and rock (without the roll) has too much British influence to count, despite its decidedly left-coast origins.
My suggestion is that the only important thing you need to know is that you like it.
If the piece resonates with you in some way,then at least you can feel comfortable with the thought of living with it.
Pricing can be difficult as there are so many variables.
It is very unlikely that you would be purchasing anything that will escalate in value as an investment directly from an artist.
This game is played within the gallery circuit and artists there are not permitted to sell privately.
Unless the price seems outrageous that don’t haggle too much if you can afford it. Most artists struggle to survive and usually receive a very low hourly rate.
