mmm, i like anselm kiefer – worked mostly in the 70′s and 80′s but still does now – he is German and portrays political issues, he’s probs most famous for portraying post-war Germany as he was affected majorly by it. He was in 1945 two months after Hitler and Eva commited suicide.
His work is amazing, but this is just my opinion.
He has some pieces in the Tate Modern ‘Let a Thousand Flowers Bloom’ this is to do with chairman Mao. His work is concerned with the world today but not really in England, more worldwide:)

Plastic Army Men Art for the USO Painting with Toy Soldiers
Over 1,500 little plastic army men stuck on camouflage. The toy soldiers are 3 different colors with 8 different types each. Painted and glued down with acrylic on to a wood surface. The the feet bases are encased in an epoxy resin coating. Measures just over 3 foot by 4 foot.
The charity auction on Ebay raised over $2000 for the USO. Dedicated to the soldiers and their families who have had their lives put on hold while they are stuck in camouflage.
